FAA PART 107 TEST PREP CLASS October 10, 2017 17:02 1 Comment

Aloha Everyone,

We are going to start up the blog again with small FYI and info you and as always support for all of your drone needs.

Lately, I have seen a number of FB posts arguing what is considered to be commercial operations. What is really funny is that 3+ years ago that understanding of what is and what is not was the dividing line for the need for an FAA 333 exemption. Fast forward to 2017 and we are still seeing new people try to argue this issue. Some think that you have to be paid directly, some think you can fly under hobbyist rules for one part of the flight and 107 rules for another so you can do a job without a waiver. And still others have tried to argue that they only charge for photo and video editing and not the flying. Guess what? Wrong, wrong, wrong.

The FAA has been very clear on commercial operations and it is more than just getting paid directly by a client. If you shoot pictures and put them on your website to promote your business, that's commercial operations. If you use a drone internally for company use (i.e. roof survey, solar inspections etc) that is also commercial operations.

The point is that you are better off being on the right side of the rules and regulations for commercial operations. Insurance does not cover unlicensed operators who cause an accident. If the FAA were to investigate fines and possible denial of getting a Part 107 license is a possibility. Worst case a lawsuit by an injured party.

We have been offering an FAA Part 107 Test Prep Class that goes beyond the exam. We want to help develop a professional community that is respected and properly compensated for the work we do. If you are interested in our Part 107 Test Prep Class you can sign up below for our next one in November.

Feel free to email or call us anytime.
